When it comes to the “Super SUV” category, the Volkswagen Tiguan R MK2 is a formidable contender. Sharing its DNA with the legendary Golf R, the Tiguan R brings 320hp and 4Motion all-wheel drive to a practical, family-sized package. But while the performance is world-class, the factory wheel options can often leave enthusiasts wanting more, specifically, more aggression, more width and a better stance.

At Riviera Wheels, we’ve taken this MK2 Tiguan R to the next level by fitting a set of our Riviera RF10 wheels. Here’s a breakdown of the car, the wheels and why this specific fitment is a game-changer for Tiguan owners.

The Car: Volkswagen’s Performance SUV Icon

The VW Tiguan R (MK2) is widely considered the “sweet spot” in the Volkswagen performance lineup. It’s a vehicle that can handle the school run on Friday and a spirited B-road blast on Saturday. With its signature R-styling, quad exhausts, and 0-60mph time of just 4.9 seconds, it demands a wheel that matches its muscular aesthetic.

However, the standard 21-inch ‘Estoril’ wheels, while stylish, sit somewhat tucked inside the arches. To truly unlock the visual potential of the Tiguan R, an aftermarket wheel upgrade is essential to fill those flared arches and provide a more “planted” appearance.

The Wheels: Riviera RF10 in Black Polished Dark Tint

For this build, we selected our Riviera RF10, a wheel from our Flow Formed range. The RF10 features a complex multi-Y-spoke design that perfectly complements the sharp lines of the MK2 Tiguan’s bodywork.

We opted for the Black Polished Dark Tint finish. This isn’t your standard gloss black, the dark tint over the polished face provides a sophisticated, high-end look that changes depending on the light. It adds a layer of depth and luxury that contrasts beautifully with the Tiguan’s lapiz blue or deep black pearl paintwork.

Beyond the looks, the RF10 is Flow Formed, meaning it is stronger and lighter than traditional cast wheels. This reduction in unsprung weight helps maintain the Tiguan R’s sharp handling and acceleration, ensuring you don’t sacrifice performance for style.

The Fitment: 22x10.5 Deep Concave Perfection

The real secret to this Tiguan R’s transformation is the fitment. We didn’t just go big, we went aggressive.

We fitted 22×10.5 Riviera RF10 wheels all around. By choosing the 10.5J width, we were able to achieve a deep concave profile that creates a dramatic, wide-track look. This setup sits perfectly flush with the arches. There is no “poke” and no “tuck”, just a clean, aggressive stance that eliminates the factory wheel gap. The 10.5-inch width is one of the most aggressive setups you can run on this vehicle, giving it the presence of a much larger performance SUV like a Lamborghini Urus or Audi RSQ8.
